The practice is based in The Village Medical Centre and has disabled access. The spacious treatment area is well equipped and a large variety of treatment methods are available. A doctor’s referral is not required and Maryke will liaise with GPs and consultants if any further investigations are advisable.
Patients are allotted generous appointment times. Treatment is aimed at decreasing pain, promoting healing and restoring health. The first treatment will normally be for an hour and will consist of a thorough assessment, the findings will be discussed, a treatment plan formulated and treatment commenced.
Subsequent visits will normally be 45 minutes providing ample time for treatment with a mixture of modalities and to discuss any concerns the patient may have. Electrotherapy is used if and when appropriate as are therapeutic exercise, massage and mobilisations.
There are many different aspects of the musculoskeletal system which need to work effectively together to prevent reoccurrence of injury e.g. core stability, muscle balance, strength and endurance, movement patterns and posture.
To treat an injury effectively and to prevent reoccurrence it is often necessary to assess the interaction of relevant joints and muscles – not necessarily only the injured joint.
Problems will often not resolve completely without looking at this interaction. This is a very important component of effective treatment. Your work environment and lifestyle must also always be considered.
